WHO:
The Whistler Arts Council is a registered charity established in 1982 with a mandate to build and integrate arts into the fabric of the Whistler community. The Arts Council believes that the arts are integral to a healthy community and the culture of a community.
The Whistler Arts Council advocates for the arts, local artists and the local community; provides the community access to the arts and vice versa; provides resources and information to the community, outside organizations and local artists by acting as a referral service, co-programmer and information network.
WHAT:
The Whistler Arts Council, along with MY Place, organize a Performance Series with a mandate to present high quality entertainment at an affordable price thus making it available to the entire community of Whistler. The Arts Council also produces the following events: Bizarre Bazaar – An increasingly successful annual Christmas Artisan Fair attracting over 100 craftspeople and fine artists most of whom are from the talented Sea-to-Sky corridor. Children’s Art Festival – A unique festival that began in 1982 with the purpose of introducing school children to fine arts and fine artists. The two-day event is attended by hundreds of local and visiting children who are given the opportunity to try their hands at many different mediums. ARTrageous is a multi-disciplinary art event held in July attracting over 500 attendees.
The Whistler Arts Council also works with independent event producers, Resort Municipality of Whistler, Tourism Whistler, and other community groups to augment cultural programming at various events throughout the year. With a comprehensive database of local artists/performers and programming expertise, the Arts Council is a resource of information and co-producer to incorporate the local cultural sector.
**In addition to these major events, the Arts Council is also responsible for the following: Four Art Awards presented annually to graduates of the elementary and secondary schools in both Whistler and Pemberton; An annual bursary to enable a local student to attend an art camp; Hosting of the Missoula Children’s Theatre annually in the fall at Myrtle Philip Community School

The Board of Directors of the Arts Council meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 4335 Main Street, Whistler.
